Youtube Successful History

Maybe if you ask someone, what it the most popular website today, Youtube definitely one of the answer. In 2007 Youtube reach the peak of his success in business competition on the internet after they have thousands and even millions of members both active and non active worldwide.

Everybody must be very familiar with this website. YouTube is the most popular video sharing website. The users can upload, watch, and share video clips for free. Generally, the videos on YouTube are music video clips, films, TV, and a fan made video. Media format used in YouTube videos are flv. Flv can be played in the web browser that has Flash Player plugin.

YouTube was founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim all whom are PayPal pioneer. Prior to PayPal, Hurley studied design at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, while Chen and Karim studied computer science together at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "" domain name activated on February 15, 2005, and the website is built in the following months. A preview at their site in May 2005 and six months later, YouTube was first officially emerged.

Similar to many new technology companies, YouTube began as an effort funded in a small office and inexpensive. In November 2005, Sequoia Capital, the venture capital firm trading, investing $3.5 million dollar, besides that, Roelof Botha, companies partner and the former CFO of PayPal, joined the Youtube board of directors. In April 2006, Sequoia invested another $8 million dollar in the company which has experienced rapid growth and popularity in just the first few months of its existence. name selection resulted in problems for a site named like, The site owner, Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment, filed a lawsuit against YouTube in November 2006 after experiencing an overload regularly caused by people looking for YouTube website.

In summer 2006, YouTube became one of the fastest growing sites on the World Wide Web, and placed by Alexa as the fifth most popular website, which is growing far beyond MySpace site. According to a review on July 16, 2006, 100 million clips watched on YouTube each day, with 65,000 new videos are uploaded every 24 hours. According to Nielsen / NetRatings, YouTube is visited by nearly 20 million users each month, with approximately 44% of the watcher were women, and 56% of men. The aged between 12 to 17 years is the main watcher. Youtube superiority in online video market is very surprising. According to, YouTube controls 64% of the online video market in the UK.

On October 9, 2006, YouTube announced that it would be acquired by Google for the price of $1.65 billion in stock. Purchase agreement between Google and YouTube came after YouTube signed three agreements with a few media companies in an attempt to avoid lawsuits against copyright infringement. YouTube will continue to operate independently, and all company employees and the founders will continue working in the company. Transaction to acquire YouTube finish on 13 November, and it's Google's largest purchase so far.

On November 2008, YouTube reach agreement with MGM, Lions Gate Entertainment and CBS that allows these companies to load movies and full television shows on YouTube site, included with advertising, as a step to compete with other video sites like Hulu, which featured published video by NBC, Fox, and Disney.

Video Format
YouTube video player technology-based was Adobe Flash Player that allows this site to displays a video of comparable quality with existing video technologies (such as Windows Media Player, QuickTime, and RealPlayer). This plugin is required to watch Flash video, but the survey results found that Adobe Systems Flash plugin already installed in 95% of personal computers.

Uploaded videos to YouTube by a regular account holders are limited to 15 minutes in length. When YouTube was launched in 2005, longer videos can be uploaded, but the 10-minute limit imposed in March 2006 after YouTube find a lot of these long video was pirated movie and television shows. Partner accounts is permitted to upload videos over 10 minutes as long as it's allowed by YouTube. 10 minute limit was raised to 15 minutes in July 2010. Partner accounts are permitted to upload longer videos, subject to acceptance by YouTube. File size is limited to 2 GB for uploads to YouTube site, and 20 GB from Advanced Uploader user.

YouTube accepts video uploads in most formats, including WMV, AVI, MKV, MOV, MPEG, MP4, DivX, FLV and OGG. YouTube also supports 3GP, so you can upload videos from your mobile phones.

Video Quality
In the beginning, YouTube only broadcast video in one format, but now exists in three formats and also a "mobile" format for viewing on mobile phones. The default format was 320x240 pixel video with Sorenson Spark codec and MP3 mono audio.

"High quality" video which was introduced in March 2008, is shown in 864x480 pixels with stereo AAC audio. This format shows a lot of quality improvement compared to default. In November 2008, 720p HD support is introduced. At the same time, the YouTube player aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 widescreen. 720p video resolution was 1280x720 pixels and adjusted to the H.264 video codec with stereo AAC audio. In November 2009, 1080p HD was introduced, at 1920x1080.

3D Video
In a video being uploaded on July 21, 2009, Youtube software engineer Peter Bradshaw announced that YouTube users can upload a 3D video. This 3D video can be watched like a regular video, or feel the 3D effect by wearing special glasses.
